MITCHELL, S.D. – Erik Skoglund has been hired as the Mitchell High School boys’ basketball head coach pending school board approval, Activities Director Geoff Gross announced Monday night. Skoglund was the head coach of the Spearfish boys’ basketball team for the past five years and also has head coaching experience at McCook Central High School in Salem. He has also had experience as an assistant coach at high school and college levels. Skoglund succeeds Tom Young, who resigned from the job April 15 after one year in the position. The recommendation for hire will be taken to the Mitchell School District Board of Education meeting May 13. Pending approval, Skoglund will take over as head coach. He will be the third head coach of the program in the past three years.
