PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Governor tennis team split a pair of duals Tuesday in Pierre as they were beaten 9-0 by Rapid City Stevens and recorded a 5-4 win over Aberdeen Central. Head Coach Jeff Schlekeway said all in all, the Governors played well enough to win. Against Stevens, the Governors got great efforts from Conner Shoop and Brandon Vockrodt at number 2 and 3 singles but could not pull out wins. And Shoop and Vockrodt lost a close match at number 2 doubles. In the win over Aberdeen Central, the Governors got wins from number 1 singles Nathan Ellenbecker as well as victories from Vockrodt at number 3 and Mitchell Hanson at number 4. Ellenbecker and Hanson also picked up a win at number 1 doubles as did Shoop and Vockrodt at number 2. The Governors lost a pair of matches by tiebreaker at number 2 and number 6 singles. The Governors are 5-5 on the season as they host Aberdeen Roncalli and St. Thomas More on Thursday.
