Govs and Lady Govs Return to the Track on Saturday

¬†UNDATED – The Pierre Governor and Lady Governor Track and Field teams finally got back on the track after 3 weeks of postponements due to weather. One half of the team headed to Sturgis to compete in the Black Hills Classic while the other half went to Aberdeen to compete in the Aberdeen Invitational. In Sturgis, Sydney Palmer was the only Lady Gov to win an event as she won the shot put with a toss of 40 feet 4.25 inches. Courtney Dowling had a pair of second place finishes losing to Sturgis’ Brooke Ireland in the Special 400 meter race and to Stachia Reuwsaat of St. Thomas More in the 100 meter dash. The Lady Govs 800 meter relay team did take first on the track with a time of 1:45.76. Rachel Propst finished 2nd in the 3200 meter run while Sarah Polak came in 5th. Tess Johnson finished 4th in the 100 meter hurdles. The Governor boys had a 2nd place finsih from Lane Severyn in the 110 meter hurdles. Severyn also had a 4th place finish in the long jump. And Graham Protexter finished 5th in the Discus. Weston Christensen placed twice finishing 4th in the 1600 meters and 5th in the 3200 meter runs and Steven Gordon had a 5th place finish in the 3200 meter run. In Aberdeen, the Governors got a third place finish from Austin Lemieux in the pole vault as he cleared 13’6″. Riley Sears won the high jump clearing 6’7″ for the best Governor finishes on the day.
