PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Pierre Rescue Squad was called out yesterday to assist the occupants of a boat that was stuck on a sandbar. Pierre Fire Department Deputy Chief Ian Paul says the squad responded to the call for assistance about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday. He says the watercraft was located near the exit of the main channel, near the Izaak Walton Club. Two crew members dressed in cold water suits were able to make their way out to the boat, fastened a rope to it and the rescue squad was able to pull the unit off the bar with its watercraft. There was no damage to the boat and no one was injured. The Rescue Squad was out on the call for about 45 minutes. Paul says the incident brings a reminder that boaters should be mindful of water levels. He says the nearby river is always changing and boaters that don’t know the water should be cautious or ride the waters with others who are more familiar with local river features.
