PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Batting Cage Association announced that the batting cages at the Oahe Softball Complex will open for the season this weekend. Hours of operation on Saturdays and Sundays will be from 12-6 in the afternoon, and the cages will be open weeknights from 5:30-9:00 throughout the baseball and softball seasons. New this season, the batting cages will feature a new fastpitch softball machine, in addition to four slowpitch machines and four baseball machines. Volunteers will be needed to keep the cages running during the intended hours of operation, so anyone interested in volunteering can contact Brian Oakland at 295-1549. Volunteers and their kids are entitled to free hitting while working the cages, so high school players and parents of little leaguers and JO softball players, as well as adult players, are encouraged to volunteer. And due to limited operation the past two seasons because of the flood, punch cards that were handed out to players in previous years will be honored this season as well.
