Judge Denies a Request in Pierre Shooting Death Case

Court Scales

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Attorneys representing a Pierre teenager accused of killing another teen will not be allowed to interview a key witness in the case.  Sixteen-year-old Braiden McCahren has pleaded not guilty to murder in the shooting death last Dec. 18 of 16-year-old Dalton Williams in the McCahren home. McCahren is accused of shooting Williams after first pointing a weapon at another male teen.  Defense attorneys want to interview that boy, saying there are inconsistencies in earlier statements he has made. Prosecutors dispute that and opposed the motion.  Sixth Circuit Judge John Brown on Thursday denied the defense request, saying any discrepancies could be addressed at trial or during a hearing in May on whether the case will be transferred from adult court to juvenile court.
