Public Safety Telecommunications Week Noted Through Saturday

Emergency Dispatchers

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) This week marks National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. The week is a way to say thanks to the Communications Officers that serve the five county area from Pierre’s Central SD Communications Center.  Pierre Police Captain Elton Blemaster says the dispatchers answer 9-1-1 calls and help citizens calling in for assistance.  They also serve as a line of communication for officers and other responders dealing with emergencies.  Blemaster says the communications officers are vital to many.

Communications Supervisor Edie Jenniges leads a staff of nine communications officers who answer emergency calls and dispatch police, fire, ambulance and other responders for five counties in central South Dakota.   The communications officers include Cindy Gross, Jana Jones, Kade Anderson, Selena Parce, Ruth Howell, Heather Vaughn, Amanda Johnson, Maggie Murphy and Jamie Pesicka.
