PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A local organization that is working to help those who are in need in the Pierre and Fort Pierre area received a donation Tuesday from CHS Midwest Cooperatives. $14,700 was given to the Pierre Area Referral Service during a donation ceremony at the Feeding South Dakota warehouse in Pierre. Executive Director Laura White says the money will be used for the Pierre/Fort Pierre Food Pantry and the donation is very much appreciated.
White says the food pantry has seen an increase in the number of people that seek food assistance. Though some of the food for the pantry is purchased through Feeding South Dakota, White says the organization receives assistance and donations through various other outlets-and all are a big help.
Right now, PARS is participating in the Feinstein Challenge. For the 16th year, philanthropist Alan Feinstein is dividing $1 million among non profit hunger fighting agencies nationwide to help them raise funds. As part of the challenge, PARS is accepting donations of money and food through the end of this month. Items given between March 1 and April 30 will be credited to the challenge and PARS will receive a donation through the Feinstein Foundation, depending on how much is gathered locally during the two month period.
