PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Yesterday brought a check presentation at the Feeding South Dakota warehouse in Pierre; as donations were given by CHS Midwest Cooperatives and Northern Plains Cooperatives to Feeding South Dakota. The funds were raised during the month of March by the two businesses as part of the annual CHS Harvest for Hunger food and funds drive. A total of $101,222.88 was gathered, with Northern Plains giving $65,722.64 and CHS providing the remaining $35,500.24. CHS General Manager Milt Handcock says donations were given by customers, partners, local businesses and employees and through other fundraising events.
This is the third year for the Harvest for Hunger food and funds drive. Handcock says he thinks the effort has been a successful one for a number of reasons.
Northern Plains GM/VP Todd Oster also says the food and funds drive is a great way to help others and says it works because it benefits such a good cause.
Like CHS, Oster says NP’s funds were raised through events from a pancake feed to grain donations.
Feeding South Dakota’s Matt Gassen says the effort of the two co-ops has been such a help in the organization’s work to make sure food gets to those who need it in central South Dakota.
This year’s donation is up more than $10,000 from last year’s.
A donation of more than $14,000 was also given yesterday to Pierre Area Referral Service for the local food pantry.
