PIERRE, S.D. – (From the SD Department of Public Safety) State officials are scaling back the State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to the appropriate staffing level to respond to current requests for support as a major spring storm moves out of South Dakota. The scale-back is effective at 5 p.m. today. A Level Three activation of the EOC took place on Tuesday in advance of a storm that brought heavy snow, strong winds and freezing rain. State staff will continue to monitor the storm response and will maintain regular contact with local and tribal officials to quickly coordinate any responses that may be necessary. During the storm, state offices were closed for a time, and a call center was activated to receive urgent calls regarding state government offices. That call center will be de-activated at 5 p.m. on Thursday, and state offices statewide will be open for normal business hours tomorrow.
