CP Responds to Train Derailment Near Van Metre Wednesday

Canadian Pacific Engine

MINNEAPOLIS, MN. – (DRG News) Work continues today to clear the site of a train derailment about 17 miles west of Fort Pierre.  Andy Cummings of Canadian Pacific Railway says an eastbound CP train derailed four cars yesterday that were loaded with clay.  The incident occurred about a mile east of Van Metre around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday and there were no injuries or public safety issues created by the accident.  The four cars were part of a train of 35 cars and the derailed units remained upright and nothing was spilled.  Cummings says work is ongoing today at the site to clear the cars and it’s not yet known when the line will reopen.  Cummings says it’s too early to determine the cause of the derailment, but CP will be investigating.
