PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Pierre firefighters were called this morning to the report that a load of hay being carried on a semi-truck was on fire.  Fire crews were notified that a truck had been spotted in east Pierre near the intersection of Garfield and Wells Avenues about 7:05 a.m. this morning and that hay on the truck’s trailer was on fire.  Pierre Fire Chief Bill Alexander says firefighters were unable to find the semi where they were told it had been located.  It was discovered a short time later in Fort Pierre near the Holiday Inn Express.  There was no fire and the driver was not aware that his truck was the focus of a search by responders.  Alexander says its believed that the truck’s brakes became hot as the big rig traveled down the truck route into Pierre this morning and it was possible someone spotted smoke from the brakes.
