PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Governor boys basketball team met for the last time as a team Monday night during the annual post season Awards Banquet. Awards were handed out to several Governor basketball players by head coach Terry Becker and Assistant Coach Quintin Cermak. Governor senior Lane Severyn, who wrapped up his high school career as the all time leading scorer in Riggs High School basketball history was given the Governor Offensive Most Valuable Player award while fellow senior Carson Eisenbiesz earned the Defensive Most Valuable playler award. The Hustler award was given to junor Cooper Walton while the Most Improved Player Award was earned by sophomore Nick Rabern. The other awards handed out were the Academic All State Awards that were earned by senior Alyssa Bump, a four year manager for the boys basketball team. Eisenbeisz and senior Nathan Ellenbecker were also given the Academic All State Award. The Governors ended a 31 year drought last month by winning the State Class AA Boys Basketball tournament, the first in the three class system of basketball, and first since 1982. Zach Hanson of the Governors was named the Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year in South Dakota and both Hanson and Severyn will be named to the Class AA All State Basketball team when that team is announced on Friday.
