PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A Mitchell woman was killed in a two vehicle crash that occurred south of Murdo late last night. The South Dakota Department of Public Safety says the wreck occurred on U.S. Highway 83 south of Murdo about 10:30 p.m. Sunday night. Reports indicate that 54-year-old Terri Ann Kowall was northbound on the highway in a 2011 Jeep Compass when the SUV went out of control, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 2001 Chevrolet 2500 HD pickup driven by 28-year-old Ian Matthew Moriarty of Rapid City. Moriarty tried to move to the right shoulder of the road, but could not avoid the crash. Kowall was dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt. Moriarty was not wearing a seatbelt. He was taken to a Rapid City hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The Jones County Sheriff’s Office and Jones County Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance assisted at the site of the accident and the South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
