PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – The South Dakota Board of Water and Natural Resources has approved a $24,000 grant to help fund a national certification course for landfill managers and operators from across the state.
The South Dakota Solid Waste Management Association will use the grant to host the training session this fall. The course will certify new landfill managers, maintain existing certifications and train new employees in the solid-waste industry.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard says it’s imperative to have landfill managers and operators adequately trained and certified to ensure the proper handling and disposal of solid waste.
The governor says certified landfill operators can better operate landfills, improve environmental protection and boost the efficiency of operations.
The grant money comes from the Solid Waste Management Program, which is funded by dedicated state solid waste fees.
