SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – The chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee says retiring Sen. Tim Johnson has been a tireless advocate for South Dakotans and for farm communities across the country.
The 66-year-old Johnson announced Tuesday that he will not seek reelection.
Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado says he appreciates that Johnson made this decision so early in the cycle, giving Democrats the opportunity to build a winning ticket for the 2014 election. He says Johnson will be greatly missed in the U.S. Senate.
Bennet says the committee will devote all of the necessary resources to win this seat next year, and he’s confident that the seat can remain Democratic.
