Amateur Baseball Institutes New Rules at Winter Meeting

  MITCHELL, S.D. – Stiffer penalties will be enforced for players who verbally abuse umpires at amateur baseball games this season.  The newly enacted rule was voted on Sunday during the annual amateur baseball winter meeting  in Mitchell. Ft. Pierre Native Sets Purdue Rebounding Record

  LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Ft. Pierre native Sam Ostarello scored 10 points and grabbed a school record 17 rebounds as fourth-seeded Purdue routed Liberty 77-43 Sunday in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. USD Moves to Semi Finals of WBI

  BEAUMONT, Texas – Polly Harrington scored 15 points and Alexis Yackley recorded nine assists to lead the South Dakota women past the Lamar Cardinals 71-48 in the Womens Basketball Invitational (WBI) quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon.  Harrington shot 7-for-8 in the game and scored 13 points in the first half, while Yackley led the Coyotes in assists and rebounds for the second-straight game. SD Ag in the Classroom Will Name Teacher of Year

MILLER, S.D. (AP) – The South Dakota Agriculture in the Classroom organization is seeking nominations for its teacher of the year award. The award recognizes a teacher who integrates agricultural concepts into non-agricultural classes in kindergarten through 8th grade. The organization says teachers competing for the award must use agricultural information to help students understand the importance of agriculture. PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – South Dakota legislative leaders expect a short working session when lawmakers meet for the final day of this year’s legislative session.
