The Fort Pierre Fire Department responded to two grass fires over the weekend. Fort Pierre Fire Chief Rick Cronin says the first fire call came in to responders about 2:45 a.m. Saturday morning. Fire crews put out a blaze in a ditch along Highway 1806 south of Fort Pierre. That fire scorched a 30 X 30 foot patch of grass and firefighters were at the site for about thirty minutes.
Later Saturday afternoon about 1:30 p.m., Cronin says the department was told of another fire in the ditch along Highway 1806 south of Fort Pierre that burned about 2-3 acres. Firefighters were at the second fire location for over an hour.
No one was injured in the weekend fires and no structures were threatened.
