PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) June will bring the return of a farm show to Oahe Speedway north of Pierre, but the show will have a new name and is being organized by a local business and local citizens. Last year’s show was called the South Dakota AgXchange and was run by an organization based in Minnesota. This year, the event will be called the 2013 Oahe Farm and Ranch Show and is now owned and managed by a team from Morris, Inc. of Pierre. Morris Inc. owner Milt Morris says last year, they furnished the site for the show and it was run by VerticalXchange. This year, Morris, Inc. will have a direct hand in organizing and running the show-giving it a more local feel.
Brenton Crane, who is overseeing show operations, says visitors will get a chance this year to see exhibits first–before they move on to seminars and test plot sites on the 160 acre show grounds.
Marlin Roseland, who is the Track Operator for Oahe Speedway where the show will be held, says there will be a variety of free seminars, education conferences and demonstrations, including one that will focus on fire safety for farm equipment.
Roseland says they are also working on organizing seminars on topics like no till, drought and cover crops. In addition, they plan a “ride and drive feature” in which attendees can try out tractors, seeders and other equipment in one area of the show grounds.
There were 290 exhibitors last year and organizers expect that number to go up this year. There will be no gate fee and the seminars and conferences will be free. There will also be a variety of food vendors and organizers are working to arrange a shuttle service between Pierre and the Oahe Speedway.
