PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) “Earth Awareness Week” will be noted in April in Pierre and a meeting was held Thursday to lay out plans for the week and to plan similar clean-up and beautification efforts in the months that follow. Earth Awareness Week will be held April 21-27 and is part of Pierre’s “Go Green and Clean” campaign.
People filled the commission room at Pierre City Hall Thursday morning and discussed plans for Earth Awareness Week, including events to note Earth Day and Arbor Day, a tree planting effort by Cities of Service volunteers and a city wide clean up day-which will be April 27. Pierre’s Parks and Recreation Director Tom Farnsworth says the week should be a productive one.
Farnsworth says Thursday’s meeting was well attended and the more people that are involved in city clean-up and beautification work, the more effective the effort will be.
Farnsworth showed meeting attendees a master calendar that will list Go Green and Clean related activities as they are planned. He says he would like to see groups, businesses and citizens come up with ideas for events to add to the calendar and keep the Go Green and Clean campaign at the forefront throughout the coming year.
Earlier, Mayor Laurie Gill dubbed the Go Green and Clean campaign a “call to service” for the community.
