Capitals Have First Round State Tournament Game Today




PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre-Ft. Pierre Capitals Varsity boys hockey team opens up State Tournament action as the State High School Varsity boys hockey tournament begins it’s 3 day affair in Brookings at the Larson Ice Arena.  The Capitals are the third seed in the tournament and open up play against number 6 seed Huron at 1 pm.  Pierre-Ft. Pierre is 3-0-1 in 4 meetings with Huron and the tie was the game that was called in the third period due to an ice malfunction at the EXPO Center.  In the 3 wins, the Capitals shutout the All Stars.  The other games during the first day of the state tournament have 2nd seed Sioux Falls taking on number 7 Mitchell at 3:30 pm.  Watertown takes on Rushmore in the matchup of 4 vs. 5 seeds at 6 pm and the day’s final game pits top seeded Brookings against 8th seed Aberdeen.  The semi finals will be played tomorrow with the championship, 3rd and 5th place games to be played on Sunday.  Fans can view the games over the internet by logging on to the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association website
