PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Lady Governor basketball came to an end Saturday night with a 41-33 overtime loss to Sturgis in the Region 2AA playoff game played in Pierre. The Lady Govs shot just 25 percent on the game making 9 of 40 field goal attempts. Kahlie Peterson hit 10 consecutive free throws in the second half to finish with 16 points along with teammate Lynsey Prosser who scored 16. The Lady Govs were led by Kaitlin Severyn with 14 points and Sydney Palmer with 10. Palmer fouled out of the game with over 2 minutes left in overtime. The scored was tied at 30 at the end of regulation but Sturgis outscored the Lady Govs 11-3 in the overtime period. Peterson had 10 rebounds to go along with her 16 points for a double double as Sturgis outrebounded the Lady Govs 36-32 in the contest. With the win, Sturgis advances to the State AA Girls Basketball tournament that begins Thursday in Rapid City. The Scoopers will play Aberdeen Central in a first round game Thursday at noon mountain time. The Lady Govs will miss the state tournament for a 4th consecutive season as there season ends with an 11-12 record.
