PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Lady Governor basketball team kept their State Class AA basketball tournament hopes alive with a 54-44 win over Huron last night in the 3rd place elimination game of the District 3AA Girls Basketball tournament at Riggs High Gym. Taylor Hyde’s 3-point basket early in the first period gave Pierre a 5-3 lead, a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the night. Sydney Palmer led the Lady Govs in scoring with 18 and Kaitlyn Severan added 16 points and a team high 6 rebounds. Pierre built a 8 point halftime lead and led by as many as 13 in the 4th quarter. Huron had 25 turnovres in the game while the Lady Govs had 11. Huron did outrebound Pierre 31-24 in the game. The Tigers were led by freshman Sara Carr with 14 points. The loss ends Huron’s season while the Lady Govs advance to a Region 2AA playoff game and will host Sturgis tomorrow at Riggs High Gym. Game time will be determined later this morning.
