PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) An Eagle Butte man was sentenced this week in federal court for Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. 26-year-old Mahlon Jeffries was convicted of the Assault charge and appeared for sentencing Monday before U.S. District Judge Roberto Lange. Jeffries was given a 48 month prison sentence, followed by two years of supervised release. He was originally indicted for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury by a federal grand jury in September of last year. His brother required emergency surgery to remove bone fragments from his brain. After sentencing Monday, Jeffries was turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
