YANKTON, S.D.- The Pierre Governor boys basketball team clinched the top seed for the upcoming District 3AA basketball tournament and clinched at least a tie for the ESD Conference championship with a 58-50 win over Yankton Saturday night. The Governors pulled away from the Bucks in the 4th quarter holding as large as a 12 point lead in the stanza. Zach Hanson led the Governors scoring 24 points with 16 coming in the first half. Lane Severy had 11 second half points to finish with 18 as Pierre improved their record to 14-5 and 10-3 in the ESD. Pierre can win the ESD Championship, the first since 1982, with a win Tuesday night in Aberdeen against Aberdeen Central in the regular season finale for both teams.
PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre Lady Governor basketball team won an ugly contest with Yankton on Saturday night rallying in the 4th quarter for a 30-29 win over Gazelles. Pierre led 10-9 after the first half but trailed by 4 going into the 4th quarter. Sydney Palmer’s free throw with no time remaining on the clock proved to be the game winner for the Lady Govs who improved to 10-9 on the season. Pierre wraps up the regular season Tuesday night hosting Aberdeen Central in Senior Night at Riggs High Gym.
