PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Last week brought a meeting in which a group of planners gathered to look at the 2013 Go Green and Clean Campaign for the City of Pierre. The campaign was started in 2010 as a “call to service”. In announcing the effort, Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill said each season would have a theme of its own. Gill says the campaign as a whole helps put an emphasis on keeping Pierre a clean and beautiful community.
Last Thursday, several people gathered to begin planning this year’s fourth annual Go Green and Clean Campaign. Mayor Gill says it was a productive meeting.
Gill says this year will give Pierre residents a chance to return to normal-as the golf course and park areas will reopen following the 2011 flood and 2012 cleanup and repair efforts.
For the past few years, April has brought the campaign kickoff, because Earth Day and Arbor Day are noted that month. This year, Gill says the city is looking at planning a “Go Green and Clean Week” in which every day will have a different theme and the community can focus on keeping Pierre a beautiful place to live, work and play. Gill says the Go Green and Clean committee expressed lots of enthusiasm about this year’s campaign at last week’s meeting and the group plans to gather on a monthly basis.
