PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Department of Game, Fish and Parks is working on a new reservation system, as it prepares to take reservations for visitors planning camping trips to state parks and recreation areas. State Parks and Recreation Director Doug Hofer says the new website is still a work in progress and they will have all of the features up and running soon that campers are used to. Reservations for camping in most state parks can be made within 90 days of arrival dates. The first day to make reservations for the annual Open House Weekend is February 16 for a May 17 arrival. Meanwhile, reservations for Memorial Day weekend can be made starting February 23 for a May 24 arrival. While the new reservation system is being implemented, campers wishing to book more than one campsite at a time are being asked to reserve them through the call center at 1-800-710-2267. All reservations can be made by contacting the call center or by going online to www.campsd.com. Campsites become available at 7:00 a.m. on the first day of the 90-day window.
