PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Last week’s Dancing with the Stars raised about $6,600. The annual event is held as a thank you dinner and recognition celebration for Capital Area United Way. Gloria Hanson, Executive Director for the United Way says the Thursday event featured a good group of dancers and drew a good crowd. The performance by “The Village People” raised the most money out of all of the evening’s dancers and Elizabeth Zanin and Taylor Brock were chosen as the recipients of the “People’s Choice Award”. The United Way’s 2012 campaign reached its $500,000 goal in the week before Thursday’s “Dancing with the Stars” and Hanson says the intent of the January 31 event was to offer recognition and thanks to the many people who made the campaign a success. The United Way has 21 local agencies that benefit from its funds. Hanson says the agencies will receive their first quarterly allocations in March.
