FORT PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Because of dramatic price decreases in the U.S. sheep and lamb market, South Dakota Sheep Growers will hold a meeting in Fort Pierre tomorrow to discuss an investigation into the declines. Investigators from the USDA Grain Inspection Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) will be at the meeting and will take firsthand accounts from South Dakota sheep and lamb producers regarding possible causes for the price drop. The investigation came about because of a petition from a group of U.S. lawmakers, including South Dakota Senators John Thune and Tim Johnson and Representative Kristi Noem. Tomorrow’s meeting will start at 1:00 p.m. Central Time at the Casey Tibbs Rodeo Center in Fort Pierre.
