PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The 2013 South Dakota Governor’s Conference on Tourism is underway through tomorrow at the Ramkota Hotel and Conference Center in Pierre. The annual event started this morning and will wrap up Thursday evening with an awards night gala. Jim Hagen, Secretary of the Department of Tourism, says 2012 was a great year for tourism in the state and numbers that prove that will be made public tomorrow night.
Hagen says there will be a wide variety of speakers at the conference through Thursday.
As for what’s coming to promote South Dakota in 2013, Hagen says there will be new directions in digital marketing. He also says the state will continue with a marketing presence in the cities of Kansas City and Des Moines.
Governor Dennis Daugaard will reveal 2012 tourism numbers and talk about the impact of the industry in the state at tomorrow night’s awards gala.
