PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A two vehicle accident in Pierre yesterday resulted in a total of $8,000 in damages to the cars involved. The accident was reported just before one Tuesday afternoon on West Sioux Avenue. Hughes County Sheriff Mike Leidholt says a Pierre Police unit; being driven by Officer Brandon Boyd was westbound on Sioux Avenue and it collided with a state vehicle-driven by a Harrold woman. The 2001 Dodge Caravan pulled out of the driveway of McDonalds and Leidholt says its driver, 45-year-old Tracy Achin, didn’t see the westbound patrol car. The 2008 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by the 34-year-old officer, sustained damage to its front and the state vehicle received damage to its driver’s side. As a precaution, Officer Boyd was taken to the hospital to be checked. He was treated and released. Leidholt says Boyd was cited for Failure to Wear a Seatbelt and Achin was cited for Failure to Yield. Both vehicles had to be towed away form the scene.
