PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The first meeting of the Central South Dakota Survivors of Suicide Support Group will be held this evening in Pierre. The group, according to Julie Moore of St. Mary’s Foundation, is for adults who have lost a friend, family member or co-worker to suicide.
Moore says the idea to start such a support group came about after an event held last September in Pierre-called the Step Forward to Prevent Suicide Walk. Moore says plans call for the Central South Dakota Survivors of Suicide Support Group to meet on the 14th of each month, starting at 6:30 p.m. She says they will publicize changes if a decision is made to alter the schedule. Moore says this group is fitting for those who have experienced a loss in the past, instead of for survivors who have seen recent losses.
Moore points to an important phone number for those who are experiencing thoughts of suicide or for those who are trying to help others. She says people can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-TALK (8255) and says it is a very helpful resource.
Tonight’s Central South Dakota Survivors of Suicide Support Group meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Countryside Hospice at 200 East Dakota Avenue, Suite 1. For more information, contactMooreat 224-3451.
