PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Pierre Area Referral Service was named last week as the agency that will now begin receiving funds from the City of Pierre’s Municipal Electric Utility “Round Up” program. The program started three years ago in 2009 and since that time, funds collected have been given to the Pierre Educational Foundation. When the “Round Up” program was set up, the Pierre City Commission decided that it would periodically pick a different charitable organization to receive the funds. The “Round Up” program allows municipal utility customers to round their utility bill up to the next whole dollar amount. The difference between the actual cost of the utility bill and the next whole dollar is then given to the recipient agency. Mayor Laurie Gill says in a statement that she is pleased to see funds donated locally remain local, and continue to benefit the community. Money given to PARS through the “Round Up” program will be used to help Pierre residents who are having a hard time paying their monthly utility bills. To find out how to enroll your monthly utility bill in the “Round Up” program, contact Pierre City Hall at 773-7341.
