Lower Brule Man Pleads Guilty to Assault in Federal Court

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A Lower Brule man pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.  U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says that 53-year-old Earl LaRoche appeared in court yesterday and entered the guilty plea to an indictment charging him with the assault count.  The charge resulted from an incident in October of 2011 when LaRoche assaulted a female victim by biting off a portion of her ear.  The action resulted in the victim having to have 25 stitches and she was left with permanent disfigurement.  LaRoche was released on bond until his March 25 sentencing date.  The maximum penalty faced for the assault charge is ten years in prison, a $250,000 fine or both.
