ONIDA, S.D. – (DRG News) Funeral services have been set for a young Onida man who died Tuesday morning. 20-year-old Tate Senftner was found deceased on New Year’s Day. Senftner’s death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Senftner was a standout high school athlete and had been attending Northern State University in Aberdeen.
Sully County Sheriff Bill Stahl says authorities were called about Senftner’s death about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Students will return to school from the holiday break on Monday, but Kevin Pickner, Superintendent of the Agar-Blunt-Onida School District says a school counselor was available at the school in Onida today and he says she will be available for assistance in the coming days, as needed.
Funeral services for Senftner will be Saturday. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Sully Buttes High School Gymnasium. The funeral will also be held at the school gym, starting at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Onida City Cemetery. Pickner says a luncheon will follow at the school cafeteria.
