PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) South Dakota outdoors enthusiasts will find that several hunting seasons are still open in January-as the calendar turns over to a new year.  The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department says the pheasant hunting season comes to a close on Sunday, January 6.  Hunting seasons for grouse, prairie chicken, partridge and quail also close next weekend-on January 6.  The extended “antlerless tags only” season for both East River and West River deer hunting opened this past Saturday and will close this coming Sunday.  “Any Deer” tags will not convert to “antlerless tags” and are not valid during this week-long period.  The G F & P also says the Archery, Muzzle loader and Youth deer seasons all close January 15, as does the Fall Turkey hunting season.  Duck hunting on the High Plains unit remains open until January 17.
