FT. PIERRE, S.D. – The Pierre-Ft. Pierre Capitals varsity boys hockey team won their 5th straight game and sit atop the state high school hockey league standings following a 4-2 win Friday night over the Rushmore Thunder at the EXPO Center in Ft. Pierre. The game was tied at 2-2 after two periods of play but Cougar Sanchez scored what proved to be the game winning goal at 7:56 of the third period. Austin Wagner’s second goal of the night clinched the win at 16:4 of the final period. Wagner and Drew Leif scored first period goals for the Capitals and Kyle Mammenga turned aside 14 shots in goal. Pierre is 7-2 on the season in the state hocky league. The two teams will play again tonight at 8:15 pm at the EXPO Center. In the JV game, the Capitals and Thunder played to a 2-2 tie.
ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Pierre-Ft. Pierre Lady Capitals varsity hockey team scored a 5-1 win over Aberdeen in South Dakota High School league play Saturday in Aberdeen. Megan Johnson scored twice as did Emily Webber. Gabby Vizcarra scored the other Lady Capital goal as Pierre-Ft. Pierre won their first league game of the year. Tess Singleton made 19 saves and the Lady Capitals put 14 shots on goal. The two teams play again later today.
