BLUNT, S.D. – (DRG News) A fire in a Blunt garage destroyed the structure and burned a small area of a nearby home.  Jerry Yeager of the Blunt Volunteer Fire Department says firefighters were contacted by someone passing by the residence at 311 North Bluff Street-where flames were already burning in the garage.  Three dogs that were in a kennel that was attached to the garage were saved after they were let out of the fenced-in area   A two story home, located less then ten feet away from the garage, also caught on fire, but Yeager says firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading too far.  The blaze destroyed the garage and pickup that was inside and burned into one room of the home.  Yeager says he’s not sure of the damage amount to the home, but says portions sustained water and smoke damage.  Firefighters were at the scene of the blaze until about 7:30 p.m. last night.  The cause of the fire is currently unknown.  Yeager says the Pierre Rural and Onida Fire Departments assisted at the scene of Thursday’s fire.
