Pierre PD Offers More Information on Tuesday Shooting

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Here is a statement from the Pierre Police Department on the shooting incident that occurred in Pierre Tuesday:

On December 18, 2012 at 5:28 PM officers from the Pierre Police Department responded to a call of a gun shot in the 400 block of North Buchanan Avenue. When officers arrived they located three (3) 16 year old males. One was fatally injured from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The victim was identified as Dalton Williams, 16 of Pierre. Williams was a sophomore at Riggs High School in Pierre. The investigation is being conducted by the Pierre Police Department and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation. Braiden K. McCahren, 16 of Pierre was taken into custody, and has been charged with Murder in the First Degree. He is currently being held in the Hughes County Shelter Facility. This investigation is continuing. Other agencies involved with this incident have been the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and American Medical Response. Authorities have determined this is an isolated incident and there is no further threat to the public. Law Enforcement authorities, Pierre School District personnel, and representatives from the mental health community are conducting a coordinated effort to provide support to the schools and community.
