PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) There will be a community prayer vigil on the steps of the State Capitol in Pierre this evening-to remember those who died Friday at the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. The event is being hosted by the Pierre/Fort Pierre Ministerium. Pastor Karl Kroger says the vigil was organized to give people a chance to join together and offer support for the Connecticut community and the victims of the tragedy.
Pastor Kroger says the shooting has impacted people across the entire country.
Kroger says his hope is that the nation can heed the words of President Barack Obama yesterday to do a better job of protecting children-and that this is a good place to start. He says those that attend tonight are invited to bring candles of their own. There will also be a display at the vigil that will include candles that will be lit for each of Friday’s victims. The vigil will start at 5:30 p.m. on the Capitol steps. It is open to the public. Those that have questions can contact Pastor Kroger at 223-1353.
