PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Pierre Chamber of Commerce ended its holiday promotion yesterday. The “Jolly the Mystery Snowman” contest started about a month ago. People were invited to follow a series of weekly clues to guess the identity of “Jolly”. The mystery person dressed in the snowman costume appeared at local businesses for weekly “Christmas Cash Mobs” and the last public appearance was at Friday’s annual Parade of Lights. Chamber Executive Director Laura Schoen Carbonneau says the number of people who correctly guessed the identity of Jolly increased with each successive week. The first week, there were 36 guesses with no correct answers. The second, there were 38 guesses and 11 were correct, the third week there were 112 guesses and 80 were correct and last week’s final clue brought 83 guesses with 66 of those being correct.
Schoen Carbonneau says Jolly’s identity was revealed at an event yesterday at the Pierre Mall…and the mystery snowman was….Jami Beck. Schoen Carbonneau says two drawings were also made for the winners of $500 Pierre Pride Dollars and a one night stay at the Clubhouse Inn Presidential Suite.
Schoen Carbonneau says this was the first year for the Jolly contest and she feels it was a great success-and helped remind people to shop local for the holidays!
Schoen Carbonneau says she believes the holiday shopping season has started on a positive note for local merchants-based on what she’s heard and seen since late last week.
Cheryl Stone was one of 157 correct guesses of Jolly’s identity and her name was drawn as the winner of $500 Pierre Pride Dollars. Freda Lumby was the lucky winner of the stay at the Clubhouse Inn.
