RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Rush fell short in a Central Hockey League defensive battle Friday night losing to the Fort Worth Brahmas 2-1 in the first matchup of the season between the two teams. Midway through the first period, Thomas Klempa broke into the Rush zone from the left-wing side, before bouncing a shot home for a 1-0 Brahma lead. The one-goal advantage lasted until the 12:53 mark of the final frame when Phil Fox lifted a shot home from the top of the crease, doubling the lead. The Rush finally got on the board when Rusty Masters capitalized on a breakaway chance with less than two minutes left in regulation, but the goal was not enough, as the Brahmas earned the 2-1 win. The Rush hit the road for two games, beginning tonight at the Missouri Mavericks.
