PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Pierre School Board approved using money from the district’s Capital Outlay Funds and from a Sports Marketing Fund to renovate and purchase supplies for a building that stands on the grounds of Georgia Morse Middle School. The board discussed a suggestion to make changes to the former Tech Ed building, which is located in the Hollister Field Parking Lot. The building has been vacant for some time, but once renovations are complete and supplies are purchased, it can be used by various sporting teams; including as a dressing room for teams playing at nearby Hollister Field. The project will cost about $18,535. Superintendent Dr. Kelly Glodt says the Sports Marketing Committee approved using $12,000 in Sports Marketing funds to purchase such items as floor mats and wrestling mats for the building-and other renovations to be done at the building will be paid for through Capital Outlay funds.
Glodt says the idea to put the structure back into use is a good one-especially since it will free up other places in the Middle School building for other purposes when sporting events are held.
After discussing various other ways to fund the project and whether or not to go forward with it; the board members at the meeting approved the idea to proceed with the make-over of the Tech Ed building. Board member Randy Vance was not present at this month’s meeting-which was held on Monday evening.
