PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A local middle school counselor was recognized this morning as the 2012 BankWest Investor in Education. Kim Rogers is a counselor at Georgia Morse Middle School. She was presented with the Investor in Education award at a special staff meeting today. In addition to receiving a crystal award and certificate, Rogers will also receive a $1,000 professional development grant from BankWest, Inc. BankWest Chairman, President and CEO Charles Burke III says in a press release that Rogers truly makes a difference in the lives of our young people. He says middle school can be a challenging time for many students and Rogers offers a sympathetic ear and helps students to overcome social, emotional and academic challenges. Rogershas been an educator for 25 years and has served as middle school counselor for the past 12 years. She was nominated by a middle school student who said that Rogers promotes healthy choices and leads by example. The BankWest Investor in Education Award is given out each year as part of American Education Week. Recipients are chosen from nomination essays submitted by students, peers and community residents. Others who have received the award in past years include Christine Tetzlaff, Amber Stout, Hope Armstrong, Becky Kitts, Kelly Dix, Darlene Neiles, Paula Weeldreyer, Kathy Norwick, Dennis James, Cleo Thelen, Elizabeth Vogt, Margaret Ellefson, Annie Hanson, Sue Burgard, Jay Mickelson, Steve Robinson and Bruce Venner.
