Academic Challenge Brings Seven Schools to Fort Pierre Last Week

FORT PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) The Third Annual Stanley County Small School Academic Challenge was held in Fort Pierre last week.  Eight different schools attended the event.  Students were tested last Wednesday, November 7 on 20 different areas, including English 9-12, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Chemistry, Physics, Native American History and Language, U.S. and World History and Art.  Schools earned points based on their students’ standings.   Later in the day, a double elimination, Quiz Bowl-type contest was held between teams of four students from each school.  The final team standings in the Academic Challenge-according to Sue Hotalling of Stanley County Schools-had Philip taking first place-defeating second place Stanley County by just two correct answers; Jones County was third, Winner was fourth, White River fifth, Todd County sixth, St. Francis seventh and Kadoka was eighth.
