ABERDEEN, S.D. – (DRG News) Tomorrow brings Winter Weather Awareness Day to South Dakota. Dave Hintz, Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Aberdeen says the day is noted each year to refocus attention from the hazards of summer severe weather to the dangers that occur during the winter months.
Hintz says there are many steps that people can take right now to prepare their homes and vehicles for winter. He says caulking leaky windows in your residence, adding storm windows and making sure gas fired appliances are running correctly are just a few things to think about.
Hintz also advises putting a winter survival kit in your vehicle and says it’s important to make sure to stay in touch with what the weather forecast says. Hintz says people can get winter preparedness tips at www.weather.gov/aberdeen or by checking a page on the South Dakota Office of Emergency Management website at. http://dps.sd.gov/emergency_services/emergency_management/documents/Winter12.pdf
