Leola Man Pleads Guilty to Attempted Assault and DUI for January Stabbing



PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) A Leola man who was arrested after a January stabbing accepted a plea agreement and admitted his guilt to two charges this week. Trial for 22-year-old Eric Grabowska was to begin Wednesday morning. Grabowska was indicted earlier this year on alternate counts of Aggravated Assault; along with Possession of Marijuana (Less Than Two Ounces), DUI-1st and Ingesting. Hughes County States Attorney Kelly Marnette says that Grabowska pled guilty Wednesday to Attempted Aggravated Assault and DUI. He faces a maximum sentence of 7 ½ years in prison for the assault related charge and one year in the county jail for DUI. Grabowska was arrested January 5 at a Pierre motel. Earlier that day, authorities were called to a northeast Pierre neighborhood where a Pierre man had been stabbed one time in the stomach. Authorities said the victim required emergency surgery following the stabbing. Grabowska will be sentenced December 18.
