Winds Tip Semi Onto Highway East of Pierre Late This Morning

Semi Accident on October 18, 2012

PIERRE, S.D. – (DRG News) Winds blew a semi truck onto its side east of Pierre just after eleven this morning. Sergeant Darin Johnson of the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office says the accident occurred on Highway 14 east of Pierre between Titan Machinery and Dell Acres. He says the cattle pot was empty at the time of the accident. The unit was westbound on Highway 14 when winds caused it to tip. It blocked both lanes of the road for a time, resulting in traffic having to be diverted around the accident scene. The driver of the semi was the only occupant of the unit and was not injured. The highway was blocked for about two hours. Johnson says the Department of Transportation used two loaders to get the semi from off the road. A semi towing company from Chamberlain has been at the site this afternoon to clear the truck from the side of the highway. The accident is being investigated by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
