PIERRE, S.D. – Over 700 Student-Athletes are set to compete in the 67th Annual SDHSAA State Cross Country Meet to be held in Huron on Saturday at Broadland Creek Golf Course. Each of the six defending Team Champions return to the competition in 2012, highlighted by four squads that can each capture a third-consecutive State Championship: Sioux Falls Roosevelt (Boys Class ‘AA’), Cheyenne-Eagle Butte (Boys Class ‘A’), Parker (Boys Class ‘B’), and Ipswich (Girls Class ‘B’). Spearfish is the defending Girls Class ‘A’ champ, while Yankton looks to repeat in the ‘AA’ Girls, which would give the Gazelles their 8th Team Title in 10 years. On the individual side, Duane Jongeling of Parker is the lone returning Individual State Champion among the six classes. Jongeling will look to complete his own three-peat, having been the Class ‘B’ Boys Individual champion in each 2010 and 2011. Fans, media members and other spectators attending the meet are encouraged to park and enter the course from the south side. Spectator entrance gates and media information will only be available in that area of the course.
