Former GOP SD Governor Exploring Run for US Senate

Governor Mike Rounds

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – Former Republican South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds has filed paperwork to explore a run for the U.S. Senate in 2014.
The Argus Leader reports that Rounds filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission that enables him to raise and spend a limited amount of money to test the waters for a Senate candidacy. Once he raises or spends $5,000, or declares he is running, he will become an official candidate for the seat currently held by Democrat Tim Johnson.
Johnson has not said whether he will seek a fourth Senate term.
Rounds has said he will not make any announcement about his future until after the November election.
